Day 16 – 1 February 2020
I woke this morning feeling pretty down as last night I’d finished running in considerable pain. Attitude is so important in a challenge like this, so I’m doing my best to keep on top of any low mood. We set a realistic distance of six miles to the first checkpoint, and after porridge and hot chocolate I was feeling ok. The next leg was nine miles and quite difficult. It still feels like we’re ascending all the time so it’s a lot of slog. The injury is still causing me problems, but I’m trying to remember that some things are out of my control, and the best I can do is to treat the injury, rest as much as I can and try to stay positive. It probably helped that my music wasn’t working for this leg, so I had plenty of space to think and get my head into a better place. Lunch was good, and after some stretches we set off on another nine mile leg to the third checkpoint. Camp for tonight is a Catholic church where we have a room each (amazing) with comfy beds, hot drinks and bread. Dinner was delicious and we met the Priest there – he blessed us and I’m feeling strong ahead of tomorrow.
